The Fire Station, the First World War and a dog called Freda

Freda graveI attended the opening of Tamworth’s new Community Fire Station on June 9. Staffordshire’s Chief Fire Officer Peter Dartford was at the ceremony and he was joined by the Mayor and Fire Minister Bob Neill. 28 fire fighters are based round the clock at this impressive new site which includes meeting rooms and a kitchen for local groups to use as well.

On my way to the ceremony I visited Cannock Chase and came across a memorial to a very special dog called Freda. Troops were stationed there during the First World War and the memorial was placed there in honour of Freda, the regimental mascot dog
