Campaign puts domestic abuse in the spotlight

It is extremely important the county council works together with partners to ensure better outcomes for residents and also for consistency.

DV 200This Christmas we have teamed up with Staffordshire Staffordshire Women’s Aid and four other local councils to warn those committing domestic violence that their actions will not be tolerated.

We have launched a joint campaign in the run-up to the festive season. Sadly, statistics show an increase in the reports at this time of year which is why police and partners are reminding people to use the support available and report the incidents.

This year’s campaign aims to raise awareness of domestic violence and also highlight the impact it has on children – often the unheard victims of domestic abuse. In over 90 per cent of domestic abuse incidents children are in the next room or within earshot so the message for this campaign is “Domestic violence can scar children for life and punishable by prison”. We want offenders to know that the abuse will not be tolerated but also to urge victims to get support.
