Olympic torch route

I’m thrilled that today’s announcement on the route of the Olympic Flame will shine a light on Staffordshire.

Ten of our communities will welcome the Torch on its journey around the UK next year on 30 May and 30 June.

The relay will pass through Gnosall, Haughton and Stafford on 30 May and through Burton-on-Trent, Streethay, Lichfield, Hopwas, Tamworth, Great Wyrley and Newtown on 30 June.

The torch will also stop at the National Memorial Arboretum on 30 June – extremely apt that it stops at this inspirational venue on that date, to coincide with national armed forces day.

Although the Torch won’t be visiting all communities in Staffordshire, I hope everyone will get caught up in the excitement and join in the celebrations. There will lots of events planned on the run up to the Olympics (still top secret at the moment, but watch this space!) for everyone to get involved in.

The Staffordshire Olympics website, www.staffordshire.gov.uk/2012 is a good place to keep checking for the latest details.
