Christmas message

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

Dear colleagues

I wanted to take the opportunity of thanking you for all your hard work this year. 2011 has had some fantastic highlights, many of which we have shared through the regular updates and my blog. For me these include the announcement that Jaguar Land Rover, Amazon and other international names are coming to Staffordshire, the launch and early successes of families first, the welcoming of public health to the Council, the success of the Hoard tour and the move to Staffordshire Place. There are many other major successes over the last 12 months which are too numerous to mention here, but I have been, and remain, hugely proud of all of you and the dedication, energy and commitment to improving the lives of our residents that you all show. Across all our services we have made changes which are having an impact on the every day lives of residents, including some of the most vulnerable in our communities, as well as raising the reputation of the County Council and I am tremendously proud of our achievements.

It has also been a year of significant change for everyone in the county council as we have worked on our major transformation programme. I know that this can lead to uncertainty and that it can be hard to know what the implications will be for you personally. Throughout it all I recognise and hugely appreciate that you have continued to give a phenomenal service to the people of Staffordshire.

2012 will be another busy year for us. I anticipate it will be the year that many colleagues transfer to the NHS Partnership Trust. We can also look forward to the Olympic Torch relay. We will continue to find innovative ways of delivering service to meet the needs of customers and we will continue to make tough decisions where needed. However, we are in good shape. We have a balanced budget and a clear plan to take us through the next few years and, with so many brilliant people working for the County Council, I am confident that we can continue to make a real positive difference for the people of Staffordshire in the year ahead.

It just remains for me to say thank you to those of you who are working during the holiday period, and I hope you find time to relax. And to wish everyone a peaceful Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year.
