New ways of working

Monday, November 7th, 2011

I am pleased to say I have moved into Staffordshire Place!  Colleagues are moving into Number 1 Staffordshire Place all week and there is already a really positive atmosphere.  Colleagues who have been based in buildings all across Stafford are now together in one place and there is already great deal of very positive networking going on. Where we used to have to arrange meetings and find a suitable room, we can now catch up informally in the breakout spaces.

I want to say thank you to all those colleagues who have managed to pack up their offices and move into new surroundings while managing to maintain their service.

I am also very appreciative of all the hard work and long hours that the project team have been working to make the moving process go as smoothly as possible for all of us.

Elsewhere I have been working with members of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to review their budgets for the coming financial year. SLT have been developing proposals that will meet a savings gap next year whilst continuing to meet the needs of Staffordshire’s residents. We’re not starting from scratch. Current modernisation, transformation and development work across the county council will make a significant contribution towards achieving the savings we need to make.

When we have identified potential ways to make savings, these will be discussed with the whole of Cabinet and SLT. As a democratic organisation, the final decision rests with Cabinet as to which proposals should be taken forward and this will form the budget that they will recommend to county council in February

At this stage, we don’t know the impact that meeting the savings challenge will have on individual teams. As soon as more information is available we will make sure it is passed on.
